We all must remember things every day. Luckily for us, our memory can be increased and we can remember more things at once. We just have to use few methods. Immediately at the beginning we have to understand that remembering covers more than just remembering names. Memory has a much larger role in our lives. Memory is a general biological function that enables us to focus our behavior so we can successfully go through many difficulties. Remembering our experiences from a few days, weeks or even years ago, and especially their meanings, makes our life so much easier. If our memory is working correctly, there is less chance that we will make the same mistake once again.
Memory makes us able to connect past with present or future, so we can adjust our behavior based on past experiences. Memory keeps us mentally active. It keeps information in our brain active and always ready. If our memory has a lot of worthless information stored, there will not be enough valuable thinking to keep us moving forward. To show how big role of memory really is, I'll bring you a few situations in which it comes to expression. The better our memory in certain situations is, the better and faster we will complete our job or achieve goals. Without our memory we can not complete any of the following tasks:
Addition, subtraction, multiplication, dividing, remembering addresses, remembering appointments, remembering birthdays and other anniversaries, remembering names, phone numbers … The role of memory is maybe less visible, but still very important in following tasks: Making decisions, learning, planning, reading, problem solving, reading comprehension … Of course, we could make the list much more larger and larger because, basically, whatever we do involve our memory. This may sound funny to you, but try to make a list of activities you could do without your memory. That list would cover only natural reflexes I'd say … The largest value of memory is that it connects time and information. Memory supports our mental activities.
